MAYDAY is…

what is MAYDAY.

the idea for MAYDAY started on the Friday the Dobbs decision came out. while discussing the issue with my husband, he poised the question “well, if you feel so passionately about it, what are you going to do?” at the time, i didn’t have a good answer, either for him or for myself.

so i thought about it. two days later, i found my answer.

in the book by Margaret Atwood titled The Handmaid’s Tale (along with the Hulu series of the same name), there is a secret organization called MAYDAY that helps get women out of Gilead and to safety. it a nondescript phrase that has safety in it’s simplicity. i decided it would be a great name to use to help identify those who support individual’s reproductive rights.

MAYDAY was created for women and individuals with uterues to save their rights. MAYDAY can be used to safely identify those of us who believe that there is a crisis for individuals reproductive rights in the united states. MAYDAY is a cry for action, to save women and those with uteruses. MAYDAY says you have rights that deserve to be protected.

MAYDAY will be used as a clearinghouse for information on reproductive rights and how to best and legally obtain family planning needs in the united states, no matter your geographical location. MAYDAY is our rescue phrase and rallying cry.

we will be shortly debuting merchandise so that the word will be spread about MAYDAY. each piece of merchandise will feature a QR code leading to this website, which will have information on how to obtain family planning needs and how to connect to organizations that can help, as well as news and other information on reproductive rights in the united states.

a portion of the proceeds of merchandise sales will go to the Trust Women Clinic – Pro Choice OKC, a boots-on-the-ground organization providing direct support to women and those with uteruses in need of family planning options that may be limited by their geographical location. we are happy to partner with this organization initially and look to expand the organizations we support in the future.
